We recognise that you may have some concerns about your stay, and we’d like to reassure you that we are continuing to closely monitor the situation regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus). Going forward, we will continue to monitor and follow the relevant Public Health England advice; please feel assured - your health and well-being is our priority.

While we all deal with the effects of Coronavirus (Covid-19), we wanted to keep you abreast of the steps our dedicated team are taking to help ensure your safety and comfort. As always, we are thoroughly cleaning the hotel, ensuring that we focus on high-traffic surfaces - such as door handles, bathrooms, tables, and facilities. We are also deep cleaning each room daily, and hand sanitiser is available in all departments, including on reception. Please use this upon entering the building, as well as washing your hands regularly for 20-seconds as per the government's advice using our various facilities.

We have spent the last few weeks analysing our operations and have introduced the following 7-point plan to minimise the risk to both our guests and staff alike:

1. Hand sanitiser is available at all entrances of our hotels and restaurants. We kindly ask guests to make use of these additional facilities.

2. All bedrooms are thoroughly deep cleaned, with a particular emphasis on wiping down all contactable surfaces.

3. All toilets and wet areas are thoroughly deep cleaned throughout the day.

4. All credit card machines are wiped down after each transaction.

5. All staff follow personal sanitation procedures prior to starting work and throughout their shifts.

6. Public spaces are deep cleaned at regular intervals throughout the day, and tables are spaced at least 2m apart to allow for distancing in public areas.

7. Any staff member returning from affected areas abroad have automatically been asked to self-isolate for 14 days.

It's fair to say: we're in unusual times. It's understandable if you are feeling concerned or anxious. We want to reassure you that it's business as usual at the hotel. We are taking every step we can to ensure that The Elephant remains a special idyll that you can escape to. Looking around our quirky hideaway, things are unchanged: the gardens are as pretty as ever, the interiors as cosy, and hospitality as friendly... If you feel like you need to escape for a short break to reconnect, or you want to indulge with a special dinner at The Herd, or we are here to welcome you.

We understand that you may be holding back on making plans, and we want to reassure you. Our cancellation policy for accommodation allows you to book now, and pay nothing until you check out. If you can't make it, you can cancel. Simply give us at least 48 hours' notice, please. This will mean that we can cancel your booking, without any costs at all.

Where can I find the latest travel advice?

If you are at all concerned about travelling, we advise following the advice from the World Health Organisation (WHO). This is the advice that we will follow closely, and suggest you do the same. We always recommend that you take out travel insurance before you plan a holiday, and our advice remains the same.  The latest advice is here:

I have visited a country with restrictions (i.e. Italy) in the last 14 days

You are required to follow UK government advice surrounding any necessary self-isolation. You will be able to amend your trip, as long as you can provide proof of travel to a restricted area.


Should I cancel my booking?

We are currently operating as normal, and there is no need to believe that your stay will be compromised in any way. Normal terms and conditions apply for any amendments or cancellations. If the Government’s advice changes to prevent travel, please contact us to cancel or move your booking to a later date. Instances of “Disinclination to travel” are subject to our full cancellation policy.


What will happen if there is an outbreak at the hotel?

If there is an outbreak at The Elephant Hotel we will follow advice from Public Health England. As our guest, you will be asked to comply with any additional screening measures that are put in place. If you develop symptoms, however mild, please follow the government advice.


What will happen if The Elephant has to close?

We really don't expect this to happen. However, if we are forced to close by Public Health England, you will be able to amend your booking to a later date.
