Very friendly - Staff here are amazingly friendly and helpful.
Rooms were clean and well equipped.
Ate from the bar menu, a couple of sharing boards and a nice Shiraz in one of the lounges.
Very relaxing.

We booked in for one night for my husband's birthday and thought our stay represented excellent value for money. We upgraded to a superior room (very nice - huge, comfy bed, big shower head) and for £120 had bed, breakfast and three course evening meal. The food was excellent both in the evening and at breakfast and the staff were lovely.
The lady on reception was helpful and we had very good service in the restaurant from smiley, cheerful stafff.
Pangbourne Meadow is nearby where we had a walk by the river before checking in.

Our guest reviews:
We decided to book in foor one night rather than drive back to Devon. We were given the superior Flashman room which although at the front of the annexe overlooking the car park and roundabout there was little road noise and I think it was the biggest room I've ever slept in. Thoughtful touches such as complimentary elderberry spirit, bottled water, good quality bathroom products, Teapigs tea in peppermint and English breakfast flavours including decaffeinated and REAL coffee with cafetiere and free WiFi that worked were a bonus. The bed was six foot wide with feather duvet and pillows (ring in advance if you have allergies!!) and good quality linen. Ironing board & iron supplied in fact I think they thought of everything!
We booked in advance for an evening meal and were really pleased. Although there were two parties of 8 in the dining room the noise was not a problem and the food was excellent with venison steak and wild boar pate on the menu and other quite unusual choices. Staff were polite, friendly and very helpful and we were not rushed. Breakfast in the morning was well cooked and check out was 11.30. Ideal! It's 10 minutes to Reading by train and then 35mins from Reading to London - or you can go direct from Pangbourne station which is a two minute walk away and it will take just over the hour. Last train back around midnight apparently. Perhaps a good alternative to staying in London. Would certainly use this hotel again. They are in the Hillbrooke Hotels group and if their other hotels are like this I might just give them a try.

We had a lovely night at the Elephant for my boyfriend's birthday. We found the room to be lovely, and we had a good meal in the restaurant. Staff were helpful and polite, and service overall very good.
Our 4-poster bed was really comfortable, and reading the Sunday papers in it in the morning, with breakfast in bed, was brilliant!

After a long flight we chose to bypass London and travel west for about 30mins to the wonderful Thames village of Pangbourne.
The Elephant is a lodge style boutique hotel in the centre of the village, close to the river, railway and shops. The rooms are very good quality in a modern styling of Indian theming (hence the Elephant), free wifi, restaurant, bar and snacks. We paid for breakfast which was very good and served à la carte.
The staff were excellent and the overall service very good. A great stay and recommended as an alternative to London. Railway station 60 mins from London and 30 mins from Oxford.

The location of this hotel was great for where I wanted to be in the morning. Free wireless internet in the rooms as well as free parking were also good plus points.

Don't hesitate - book it!
Excellent hotel- the rooms are immaculate and not like most these days that seem to have been designed from a catalogue of a large Swedish furniture store, all rooms are individually decorated to a very high standard. Staff very friendly, food of a very high standard, and a lot of it sourced from local suppliers. Excellent choice of draft beers at "southern pub" prices and all kept very well. You get real ground coffee in your room and a cafetiere which is as far as I know unique, watch out for the odd freebie, such as 5ml of Elderflower Vodka. Simply an awesome place - ask about any special deals that they have as they frequently have food nights etc.... at the moment a couple can stay for free on a Sunday if you spend £75.00 in the Restaurant.

We stayed for the Sunday offer, pay for dinner and get your room for free. We paid an extra £20 for a superior room and this was certainly worth doing. The food and service in the hotel was fantastic. We also paid extra for breakfast in the morning, £12.50 each. This was also worth doing as it was the best hotel breakfast I've had (eggs benedict)!
We stayed in the Empire Room. The room had quirky decor and was quite big. Extras such as lovely teas, coffees and biscuits, as well as water in the room, were very welcome. There was a cucumber spirit drink by the bed wih two glasses too. The bathroom was ok, but the shower was great.
There was some noise at about 8am which was due to other guests showering I think. My husband didn't have the best night's sleep, although I had a brilliant sleep in the comfortable four poster bed!
Not too much to do there but a lovely hotel garden and a nice walk by the Thames.
